It’s Back! The Monster Energy AMA Supercross season wasted no time in 2019, jumping straight into the swing of it. The season kicked off with the traditional ‘Anaheim’ round 1. The track, set out its stall early, breaking the riders and bikes in hard for the season ahead! The rain which descended on race day made conditions tougher still but the racing even more exciting to watch!
In typical Anaheim fashion, some wacky races resulted as we saw which riders had put in the hard work prior to the season kicking off and best gelled with there rides over the winter break and could coup with the damping layout and wet conditions. Muc-Off sponsored ‘Gas Monkey Energy AJE Motorsport’ launched its 2019 campaign, contesting the 250SX division with riders Chris Blose, Justin Starling and Dylan Merriam sporting a new look bike with the Gas Monkey Energy title partnership, but the same passion to perform at the highest level with the bikes looking on point for the season ahead.
The season got off to a solid start for the AJE outfit and all riders performing well in the qualification but Chris Blose (running #111) rose to the top as his teammates fell in the heats, leaving it up to Blose to represent AJE in the ‘Main Event’ feature race where he finished an awesome 9th place, having battled hard in the early stages to secure track position and take top a top 10 result.
A result that showcased his talent and speed backed up by his earlier heat performances. He’s a savvy Supercross rider and knows what to do out there, especially in trickier conditions and isn’t afraid to go wheel to wheel. We look forward to the battles ahead and should he find himself on the track alongside Hayes, given their long rivalry, we can't wait to see the sparks fly and some epic racing ensue!
Round 2 - Glendale. Saw the Supercross paddock arrived, thankfully without the rain that brought delays tricky conditions to round 1. An improved performance from all 3 AJE riders saw them make it through qualifying and the heats, all progressing to the feature race with all riders battling hard ultimately resulting in Blose finishing in 13th position, Starling in 17th and Merriam in 21st positions. A disappointing result off the back of the round 1, top 10, performance for the team but great to have all 3 riders in the main event and everyone in the team is fully focused on bouncing back strong for round 3 and the return to Anaheim!
Round 3 - ‘Anaheim 2’. Brought the Supercross circus back the scene of the opening round and the Anaheim track for a tripleheader race weekend. Dry weather saw a return to form for the AJE roster with Chris #111 and Justin #60 progressing straight into the main event, whilst Dylan #54 failed to quality, despite a spirited ride in the LCQ 'last chance qualifier' to make the main event finals.
The tripleheader showdown got underway in typically frenetic style and results grow as the finals progressed with 'Main Event 1' seeing Blose 12th and Starling 15th, improved further still in 'Main Event 2' (and 3) with Blose 8th and Starling 16th in both races.
After 3 rounds of the AMA Supercross season. Chris Blose sits 6th in the 250SX championship standings, Justin Starling 17th and Dylan Merriam 20th. With the midfield so tightly contested its making for some fantastic racing spectacle and we can’t wait for the next round to get underway in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross season and so see the AJE outfit on track again!
