Let’s get techy! That’s right folks, we’re back in business with another Tech Tuesday. Our regular feature where we dive into detail on loads of our epic products and what makes them the best around. This week, we’re looking at our Glue & Sealant Remover. It’s a handy AF spray that laughs in the face of ultra-sticky glue and sealant you’ll find on a bike rim – let’s see why it’s so effective.

First up, why do I need to remove glue or sealant from the rim?

You can get lots of glue and sealant build up if you’re running tubeless. Glue build up can be caused by rim tape leaving a residue on the inside of the rim, whilst sealant can make its way under the tape and just generally make a mess. It’s important to get the surface as clean as possible for when you’re applying some fresh rim tape, as any kind of remaining residue will stop the tape sticking correctly – leading to air leakage down the road. That’s why a super spray like our Glue & Sealant Remover will get your rim ready for fresh tape. Hot tip: use Muc-Off Rim Tape, it has been designed to leave as little glue behind as possible.

What are the key ingredients that help remove glue and sealant?

Our Glue & Sealant Remover has a proprietary, very mild, solvent-based formulation that is suitable and effective for removing adhesive residue, tape, glue residues and dried on tubeless sealant. Basically, it’ll make getting rid of the toughest substances a breeze.

How does it work to remove glue and sealant?

The slow evaporating speed of the formula carefully breaks down glue and sealant residues by clinging onto the surface it’s applied to, while the mild solvent formulation works its magic to break down glue or sealant. Because of the longer exposure time the soft polymer substances in glue and sealant residues are softened, so they’re easier to wipe away.

How does the formula get rid of glue and sealant but not damage the rim?

The Glue & Sealant Remover comes in a handy spray aerosol which makes it easy to apply directly onto your rims whilst you work.

The proprietary mixture is non-aggressive towards most surfaces including carbon fibre, alloy, plastics and paintwork including lacquers. Because nothing dissolves quickly with the slow evaporating formula, it dwells on the surface to break down sticky residues, meaning less manual contact or scrubbing is needed from aggressive brushes or pads which can scratch the surface.

In all instances, always test on a small inconspicuous area for surface compatibility before use.

What makes it more effective than other alternatives, such as washing up liquid?

The slow evaporating formula ensures that the spray gets the contact time with the glue or sealant that is needed to break down sticky residues. Many other alternatives simply run off before they have a chance to work, which means extra scrubbing with a brush or cloth. Washing up liquid for example only contains surface active ingredients and water, but none of the essential solvents that are needed to break down glue and sealants.

That’s all we’ve got time for this week. We’ll be back soon with more inside knowledge. But for now, grab yourself some Glue & Sealant Remover and a fresh roll of Rim Tape this way, then you’re almost ready to go tubeless. Because honestly, f**k punctures.
