The invisible force behind every fast drivetrain
Dark Energy did not appear overnight. It was developed in-house at the Muc-Off R&D Lab over four years, with more than 90 formulations and over 8,500 hours of lab and independent machine testing behind it. The objective was simple: reduce what slows a drivetrain down while delivering the durability riders need in the real world.
The result is a waxed setup designed to stay cleaner than a conventional wet-lubed drivetrain while keeping chain noise and wear under control. Less black grime on your chain is a welcome bonus. The real win is a drivetrain that feels properly sorted.
How to use the Dark Energy Chain Wax Care Kit
- Shake and spray. Shake the Chain Wax Cleaner vigorously, then spray it across the chain, cassette, chainrings and derailleurs.
- Agitate. Leave the cleaner for up to one minute, then work it in thoroughly with the Bicycle Chain Brush to release factory grease, old wax and grime.
- Rinse and dry. Rinse away the cleaner and loosened contamination. Use the Microfibre Cloth to remove excess water, then make sure the drivetrain is completely dry.
- Apply the wax. Shake Dark Energy very well. Starting at the quick link, add one drop to every chain link and complete two full laps of the chain.
- Coat the cassette. Slowly run through the gears to help distribute the wax across the cassette.
- Let it cure. Leave the wax to dry for at least 12 hours before riding. In cooler climates, allow 24 hours for best results.
Keep the performance switched on
In dry conditions, the chain will tell you when it is ready for more: once it becomes noticeably louder, wipe it down with the cloth and reapply Dark Energy.
After a wet ride, clean the drivetrain with Chain Wax Cleaner, dry it fully and reapply the wax straight away. For a deeper reset between wax cycles, use the same cleaner to remove built-up residue before starting fresh.
Store the products between 5°C and 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not allow Dark Energy Chain Wax to freeze.
