If you love bikes even half as much as we do, the Isle of Man TT should be on your bucket list. It’s not just a race — it’s the ultimate celebration of motorcycle culture, a high-octane mix of speed, history, chaos, and community. Whether you’re a long-time Muc-Off rider or just getting your gear dirty for the first time, we reckon everyone should experience the TT at least once.

We’ve put together 5 essential tips for first-timers so you can spend less time stressing, and more time enjoying one of the most iconic events in motorsport.

1. Book Your Ferry Early – Like, Now

The TT turns the Isle of Man into a biker’s paradise. Which means ferries? Absolute mayhem. If you’re planning to ride over, book your spot ASAP — we’re talking months in advance. The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company sails out from Liverpool, Heysham, Belfast, and Dublin. Space is limited, especially for bikes, and trust us, you don’t want to be that person stuck refreshing the booking site in a panic.

Don’t ride? You can fly in or hop over as a foot passenger. But riding’s half the fun — so get your mates, book early, and make the most of it.

2. Respect the Marshals — They Run the Show

You’ll never get this close to the action at any other event. But with great views comes great responsibility. Racers, inspection cars, emergency crews — they’re all hammering through the same roads you’re standing next to. The marshals are there to keep everyone alive and racing. Listen to them. Don’t step into the road. Don’t lean in for that perfect Insta shot. Just don’t.

Marshals are volunteers, and without them, there is no TT. Give them the respect they deserve.

3. Ditch the Hotel – Go Camping (or Better, Glamping)

Hotels during TT week? Pricey, booked up, and boring. If you want to soak up the real atmosphere, camping is where it’s at. Picture this: you and your crew under the stars, engines cooling down after a day of riding, beers in hand, race talk echoing around the site. Pure bliss.

4. Speed Smart – Don’t Be That Rider

Yes, there’s no national speed limit on the island. Yes, you can open it up on the Mountain Road. No, that doesn’t mean ride like you’re in the race. Speed limits still apply in towns and villages — and the police are everywhere during TT.

So go fast where it’s safe. Respect the roads. And remember: just because your mate’s gone full throttle doesn’t mean you have to. Ride your own ride, and you’ll have a blast.

Pro tip: give your bike a proper clean and check-over before heading out — your chain, brakes, and visor will thank you. (Muc-Off has you covered, obviously.)

5. Talk to People – This Is a Biker’s Paradise

From the moment you roll onto the ferry, you’ll be surrounded by people who live and breathe bikes. Want to know the best spectating spots? Where to grab a pint? Which corner gives you goosebumps? Just ask.

The TT crowd is one of the most welcoming you’ll find. Swap stories, share tools, and maybe even make some lifelong riding mates. You’ll leave the island with more than just memories — you’ll leave with a crew.

Ride In, Clean Up, Soak It In

The Isle of Man TT is legendary for a reason. It’s chaos and community in perfect balance. So grab your gear, give your bike a Muc-Off deep clean, and head to the ferry with a full tank and an open mind.

And if you’re after that perfect mix of adventure and comfort? Get your glamping tent sorted now — the bell tents at Nine Yards are pure gold.
