You’re hyped, the weather’s good, and the trail or tarmac is calling. But before you clip in, give your bike a few minutes of attention. A solid pre-ride prep routine keeps things smooth, avoids mechanicals, and lets you ride with confidence. Here’s our step-by-step:
1. Quick Clean & Debris Sweep
Even if you rinsed after the last ride, dust, grit or micro debris might have settled. Use a soft brush or microfibre cloth to clear chainstays, frame junctions, pivots, and brake surfaces to remove light grime.

2. Check Key Fasteners & Wear Points
Go through bolts, seat clamp, stem, handlebar faceplate — make sure torque is correct (occassionally). Spin wheels to check for rub; spin cranks to feel for binding or grind. Inspect brake pads, tyres, and quick releases or thru-axles.
3. Dial In Suspension & Tyre Setup
If you run suspension, set sag or rebound (especially if riding varied terrain). Adjust your tyre pressures using a pump (We recommend our AirMach Electric Mini Inflator Pro) to match the trail conditions — don’t forget to account for altitude or temperature change. A good pump is your best friend.
4. Lube & Finish Touches
Re-lubricate your chain lightly (one drop per link) and wipe off any excess. Spray a moisture-displacing protectant onto bolts, pivots, and exposed metal surfaces to guard against corrosion. Wipe down frame, grips and saddle as needed.

5. Final Walkaround
Take 30 seconds to spin the wheels, shift through all gears, squeeze the brakes and listen/feel for odd noises. Fix anything off now — better to sort it before you’re deep in a climb or remote section.
All set? Head out and shred hard.
