From our sponsored teams winning World Cups and Grand Tours, to the launch of epic new products like Punk Powder – the world's first plastic-free bike cleaner, and Ludicrous AF – the world's fastest race lube, we've not stopped! Despite achieving all this in the last few months, arguably our greatest achievement lies in our work with The Great Britain Cycling Team; specifically our support of the team in their quest for gold at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
Now, this isn't our first Olympics, in fact, it's our third. We started working with The Great Britain Cycling Team back in 2012, and since then, it's been a real success story. This year we claimed 12 medals in the Olympics, with riders using a wide range of Muc-Off products and services, and in the Paralympics, we won 26 medals.
There were of course standout performances. In the Olympics, Jason Kenny once again bossed the competition. He won the seventh Olympic gold medal of his career and his ninth medal overall, placing him above fellow cyclists Sir Chris Hoy (six golds, seven total medals) and Sir Bradley Wiggins (five golds, eight medals) on the list of all-time British athletes at Olympic Games – surely, we'll be adding a 'Sir' to his name soon? While Kadeena Cox defended her Paralympic title in epic fashion, setting a world record on her way to taking home a gold medal in the women's C4-5 500m time trial. She smashed the two-lap race in just 34.433 seconds, setting a new world record in the C4 category and beating the Paralympic record she set at the Rio Games in 2016.
As with previous games, our Research & Development Team were flat-out optimising chains for this raft of superstars. In total, 62 chains were taken from fast, to ludicrously fast through our Chain Optimisation process. The chains were cleaned multiple times using our state-of-the-art Ultrasonic Tanks and specially formulated cleaner, before being dried, and then optimised on our in-house 'dynamometer'. We then gave them a thorough coating of Ludicrous AF, before packaging them up in James-Bond-style briefcases, complete with testing data, and shipping them out to the team ready for world domination!
Working with The Great Britain Cycling Team proved pivotal on the development process of, Ludicrous AF. We supplied a number of chains coated in various development versions of the lube, gathering feedback and data from Olympic hopefuls, in multiple disciplines, during the run-up to The Games. The final version of Ludicrous AF, which is available now to buy here, is the same lube used by the team at The Games; not content with its 'multi-Grand-Tour-winning' achievements, Ludicrous AF can now also proudly wear its Olympic and Paralympic Gold-Medals too!
Beyond lube, we also debuted our highly coveted Lightweight Oversized Precision Shifting system (L.O.P.S) on the world's biggest stage. Originally designed for Mikel Landa at the 2020 Tour de France, L.O.P.S gives riders the smoothest and most precise shift possible to help them conquer their goals. Following extensive testing, Team GB decided that L.O.P.S was the system they needed to deliver optimum drivetrain efficiency, so our R&D team worked furiously to produce the 14 systems you'll have seen on a range of Paralympic bikes and more!
It's been a Ludicrous few months for The Great Britain Cycling Team and Muc-Off, and we couldn't be more stoked to once again have been involved at the highest level of world sport.
We can't wait for Paris 2024; we're already planning big things!
