How Do You Polish Chrome on a Harley-Davidson®?

To polish chrome on a Harley-Davidson®, begin with a completely clean, cool and dry surface. Apply a light layer of wax-based polish, allow it to haze and buff gently using a fresh microfibre cloth.

Cleaning before polishing is essential. Any dust or grit left on the chrome can become trapped beneath the cloth and create micro-scratches as you buff. Although individual scratches may be difficult to see, they accumulate over time and reduce the chrome’s mirror-like appearance.

Before starting:

Wash away all dirt and road grime.
Dry the chrome completely.
Work on cool surfaces out of direct sunlight.
Use clean, soft microfibre cloths.
Never reuse a cloth that has fallen on the ground.

Apply a thin, even layer of Speed Wax. Allow it to haze for around one minute, then buff gently with a fresh microfibre cloth. Turn the cloth frequently and replace it if it picks up dirt.

The Carnauba Wax enhances the shine and leaves a water-resistant barrier that helps reduce exposure to moisture and contaminants.

Avoid using excessive product or heavy pressure. More pressure does not necessarily create more shine and can increase the risk of marking the surface.

Regular light waxing helps maintain chrome that is already in good condition. It cannot repair deep scratches, corrosion, pitting or flaking plating. Damaged chrome may require professional repair or replacement.
